Why fear is your friend.

the ROLES OF FEAR IN PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

There’s this thing that happens when we start to change and it’s called resistance.

It may come through our family, our friends, our body, our mind and any means it can to get our attention off the track we are forging.

It can also come in the form of fear.

Fear can be a f*kng bitch. We all experience it at some point in our lives - especially when we're creeping out of our comfort zone - and if we allow it, it's an emotion that can paralyze us, leaving us feeling helpless and stuck.

But, what if I told you that fear can actually be our friend? That it can be the driving force behind personal growth and development?

In this blog post, let's explore the role of fear in our lives; how we can use it to propel ourselves forward and why it's not something to be feared, but rather something to be embraced.

Role #1: It's showing us there is a desire for more

When fear rears its head, it's reminding us that we are moving out of the comfortable box we've been sitting in. The box where energy is stagnant, movement is mediocre and cycles are on repeat. So, this is a very good sign.

This activation of desire for more - which moves us out of our comfort zone - means we are capable of achieving more than we currently are, and that we are capable of more than we may believe.

Because let's face it, if we were perfectly content where we are at, we wouldn't even consider the idea of anything different.

A fear of public speaking can be an indication that we have a desire to share our ideas with others and make a greater impact in the world.

Fear of starting a business can signal that we have a desire for financial independence and the ability to make our own decisions.

It's OK to want more, have more, be more - embracing fear as a signal for our desires can help us identify areas where we want to grow and develop, and motivate us to take the necessary steps to achieve our goals (more on goal setting here )

Role #2: It's showing us we are on the right path

When we are pursuing a vision or goal that is truly meaningful to us, it's natural to feel both excited and scared at the same time.

The excitement comes from the possibility of achieving something great, while the fear comes from the realization that we may have to let go of old habits or beliefs that are holding us back in order to get there.

This can be uncomfortable and scary, but it's also where we can experience the most growth.

When we feel this combination of excitement and fear, it's a good sign that we are moving in the right direction and it can be an exhilarating experience if we allow the emotions to drive us forward.

Role #3: It's showing us we are

Most people think that when fear comes up as we make a change, it means we're not ready.

However, the truth is that fear is simply an indication that our belief system is not aligned with the vision of who we want to be, what we want to do, and what we want to have.

By adjusting our beliefs to match our desires, the grip of fear loosens, and we are stimulated to take action (within 48 hours ideally, learn why here )

And let's not forget that a mental image of our desired future is a clear sign that we actually are ready to make it a physical reality. That image would not be there if we weren't ready.

So, when fear arises as we pursue our vision, it's a perfect opportunity to re-examine our belief system and reframe it to align with our aspirations.

Change brings discomfort. Let's expect it and grow through it.

Let's expect fear, doubt and worry to always be right beside us as we step out of the box we have been living in.

We can even harness fear as a powerful motivator and guide to help us break through the boundaries we have placed around us subconsciously.

If we're not feeling fear as we make a change, it’s a sign we're not growing.

It’s not only vitally essential to helping us get what we want, its the vehicle our goals are delivered in.

Besides, who said personal growth and development can't be an elegant dance between fear and confidence?
